Women’s Tennis Romps to First Victory of 2014

9/20/2014 5:36:00 PM

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – It was a cathartic day at the Bellatti Tennis Complex as the Illinois College women's tennis team stepped away from Midwest Conference play and earned a 9-0 win against Blackburn College for the team's first victory of the season. The Lady Blues improve to 1-3 on the season with the win and give Andrew Bartelmo his first win as head coach of the program.

Beginning the day with doubles action, Illinois College immediately jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Tamar Norville and Lisa Noggle combined for an 8-3 win at the No. 1 spot, while Audrey Brauer and Jovanna Chavez won the match at No. 2, 8-2. With Blackburn only fielding five players, the third doubles point was defaulted and awarded to the Lady Blues.

The domination continued in singles action, as the four doubles winners for IC plus Ally Kjellander all swept their matches in two sets. At No. 6, Brianna Pohlman was given the default victory. Blackburn was able to win more than one game in a set in just one of the singles matches.

IC returns to MWC action on Tuesday afternoon, meeting Knox College at 3 p.m. in Galesburg. The Lady Blues will be back home on Wednesday afternoon to meet Millikin University, also at 3 p.m.
