Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's soccer team's formula of stellar defense and just enough offense continues to get the job done. Ashley Riley headed in a goal in the dying seconds before halftime and the defense pitched its fourth consecutive shutout to earn a 1-0 win on Saturday over Concordia University (Chicago) and move to 5-0-0 on the season.

Possession and play were dominated early on by Illinois College, but it would take almost all of the first half for the pay-off to come. IC had a 7-2 shot advantage on Concordia in the first half, yet Riley's winning goal came in the final 15 seconds. Ashley Sholmire delivered a corner kick that Riley got her head onto to sneak past Cougar goalkeeper Callie Hasselbring.

The crossbar played a role for Illinois College early in the second half. Elizabeth Sanders hit the woodwork to keep Concordia from leveling the match in the 52nd minute. From there, Cat Solberg handled things in net for the Lady Blues, making saves on the two shots that found their way to her. She ended the match with three saves and improved to 3-0-0 on the season.

In addition to her assist, Sholmire led Illinois College with five shots on the afternoon. Sarah Skaggs added four shots.

The Lady Blues quickly return home for one last match before hitting the road for five straight. IC will match up with Benedictine University of Springfield on Monday night at 7 p.m. at England Stadium.
