By: Playing her last matches at the Bellatti Tennis Complex, senior Audrey Brauer won in singles and doubles on Wednesday, though IC fell to Monmouth, 5-4.
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – A hard-fought match between the Illinois College women's tennis team and visiting Monmouth College went to the Scots on Wednesday afternoon at the Bellatti Tennix Complex. After the teams split the six singles matches, Monmouth took two out of three points in doubles to get the non-conference victory.
Though doubles usually is contested first, singles action led off the afternoon on Wednesday. Playing No. 3 singles, senior
Audrey Brauer stormed back for a three-set victory over Annaliese McDermott (1-6, 6-4, 12-10).
Jovanna Chavez defeated Morgan Holle 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and
Brianna Pohlman dominated Cheyenne Groat, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles to give the Lady Blues three points. Monmouth responded with straight set wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 6 to leave the match knotted at 3-3 entering doubles play.
Teaming with Chavez, Brauer wrapped up her final home match with a convincing 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Katy Tolsky and Kimberly Hedgespeth. Unfortunately for the Lady Blues, Monmouth would get 8-5 wins at both the Nos. 1 and 3 matches to escape with the 5-4 victory.
Illinois College concludes the regular season with three road matches this weekend. The Midwest Conference Championships begin in Madison, Wis. on Oct. 17.
