By: Playing shorthanded and giving away two points to start out, Illinois College couldn’t find the wins needed to make up its deficit.
The Illinois College women's tennis team suffered a pair of defeats on Saturday, losing on the road to Lake Forest, 9-0, and at Carroll, 8-1. With only five players available to make the trip, IC was giving its opponents a 2-0 lead to start out with and the Lady Blues could not fight their way back in it.
Brianna Pohlman was the top performer for Illinois College on the day. She was the only IC player to take her match against a Lake Forest opponent to a third set. After losing 6-3 in the opening set of No. 4 singles to Zoe Maurer, Pohlman came back with a resounding 6-0 victory to force a tiebreaker. Her comeback ended there however, falling, 10-6.
Later in the day, Pohlman picked up a point for IC at the No. 4 singles spot against Carroll. She defeated Sarah Wick of the Pioneers, 6-2, 6-4.
Kassey Black also played well, though in a losing effort. Her match at No. 5 singles with Nicole Garcia ended 6-3, 6-3.
The Lady Blues wrap up their weekend away from home tomorrow morning, with an 8:30 a.m. match at Beloit College.
