By: Neither defense would budge on Saturday afternoon, resulting in a scoreless tie between the Lady Blues and Pioneers.
Box Score WAUKESHA, Wis. – An evenly-played match came to an end in a 0-0 draw between the Illinois College women's soccer team and the Carroll Pioneers on Saturday. IC moves to 9-5-2 (3-3-2 Midwest Conference) with the tie.
Carroll started brightly in the first half, outshooting Illinois College, 6-2, in the first 45 minutes. Senior goalkeeper
Corey Hanson was there for two of her three saves to deny the Pioneers.
The Lady Blues were a much more organized team in the second half, not allowing Carroll to even attempt a single shot. Unfortunately, IC could manage only two shots themselves, one of which came from
Ally Kjellander in the 50th minute and was stopped by Erica Patterson.
A goalie's best friend is the woodwork and it showed why in the first overtime session. Carroll's Sara Mahoney put a shot on frame early in the 95th minute but Hanson was there for the stop. Seconds later, Nicole Rauckman hit the post with a shot attempt that could easily have ended the match. Illinois College responded on the other end with a pair of shots late in the session, but efforts from
Sarah Skaggs and
Ashley Riley were fought off by Patterson.
Skaggs had two more shots in double overtime, but Patterson saved the first and the other one went wide. She led both teams with four shots in the match.
IC's final road match of the regular season comes up on Oct. 29 with a trip to Knox College. The Lady Blues will be looking to take all three points from a Prairie Fire team winless in MWC play so far on the season. Kickoff in Galesburg, Ill. is set for 4 p.m. following the conclusion of the men's match.
