Box Score

A 17-point lead in the second half vanished in the final minutes, but the Illinois College women's basketball team rallied back for a 72-67 win over visiting Monmouth College on Tuesday in Jacksonville.

The Lady Blues led by 17 points with 13:25 remaining, but a stingy Monmouth defense helped the Scots battle back to take a three-point lead with just under two minutes to play. Brittney Burgess cut the lead to one point with a jumper moments later, however, and the Lady Blues were a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line over the final 29 seconds to seal the win.

Burgess scored a team-high 20 points, while pulling down 10 rebounds. Hannah McGinnis posted her fourth straight double-double to start the season, tallying 17 points and 16 rebounds. Maddy Keith added 13 points, while Holly Wohltman had seven points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Blues shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55) from the field, 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from three-point territory and 60.7 percent (17-of-28) from the foul line.

Illinois College improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in Midwest Conference play with the win. They are back in action this weekend at a tournament at DePauw University. The Lady Blues take on the hosts at 4 p.m. Saturday.
