Nathan Kohler scored the 1,000th point of his collegiate career and the Illinois College men's basketball team won its first game of the season Friday on the first night of the Bill Merris Tournament at Illinois College. The Blueboys beat Principia College, 114-53.
Zeke Light led five Illinois College players scoring in double figures. Light tallied 20 points, Kohler scored 18, and
Brandon Berry netted 13.
Brandon Fishburn and
Chris Marrs added 11 and 12, respectively. Berry and Marrs pulled down six rebounds each, and
Spencer Campbell dished out a team-high seven assists. Kohler had six helpers. Campbell and Kohler also chipped in three steals each.
The Blueboys shot 54.3 percent (38-of-70) from the field, 50 percent (16-of-32) from the three-point line and 84.6 percent (22-of-26) from the foul line.
The Blueboys improved to 1-0 with the win. They host Bluffton University at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Bluffton topped Knox College, 86-65, in the early game Friday.
