Michael Bates threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns as the Illinois College football team scored a 37-7 win at Beloit College on Saturday in Beloit, Wisconsin.
Kevin Fuller had five catches for 125 yards and a pair of 9-yard touchdowns, and
Cecil Brimmage added 126 rushing yards and a touchdown in the win.
"I was happy with the win and our ability to handle a long day trip. Their scoreboard wasn't working today, so we didn't worry about the score and just played football," said Illinois College head football coach
Garrett Campbell. "We were able to play a lot of guys today and I was happy to get the win."
Bates touchdown passes to Fuller (9 yards) and
Wes Graham (55 yards) gave the Blueboys a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. A 56-yard touchdown run by Brimmage, a safety when
Ryan Gardner made a tackle in the end zone, and another touchdown pass to Fuller (9 yards) gave the Blueboys a 30-0 halftime lead.
Brady Huber scored on a 7-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to conclude the Blueboys' scoring.
Matt Newman was 5-for-5 on extra point attempts.
Bates completed 19-of-30 passes en route to his big passing day.
Kendall Gibson (30 passing yards) and Huber (28 passing yards) also saw time under center.
Mike Tonry (42 rushing yards),
Dakota Lammy (31 rushing yards) and
Bo Davis (21 rushing yards) supplemented IC's ground game, which was led by Brimmage's 126 yards on 14 carries.
Brimmage added five receptions for 50 yards. Graham had three catches for 75 yards.
Josh Gentile had five catches for 32 yards.
Michael Ray and
Carter Cox made five tackles each.
Chris Evans had four tackles, including 1 1/2 behind the line of scrimmage.
The Blueboys improved to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in Midwest Conference play. They host Knox College next Saturday at 1 p.m.
