Michael Bates threw three touchdowns and
Cecil Brimmage ran for three more on Saturday as the Illinois College football team earned a 55-7 homecoming win over a previously undefeated Lake Forest College team.
Bates threw for 308 yards on 25-of-33 accuracy, while Brimmage ran for 137 yards on 21 carries in the win.
Josh Gentile caught a team-high 11 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown, and
Dakota Lammy and
Kevin Fuller added two touchdowns each in the win.
"I was extremely pleased with our efficiency and physical play. The kids played about as complete a game as I have ever seen in my time at Illinois College," said head football coach
Garrett Campbell. "I'm proud of our guys' focus and preparation throughout the week despite all the distractions a week like this brings."
Brimmage got the scoring started with a 1-yard plunge early in the first quarter. A 21-yard touchdown pass from Bates to Fuller and a 15-yard touchdown run from Brimmage gave the Blueboys a 20-0 advantage after the first quarter.
Bates touchdown passes to Fuller (6 yards) and Gentile (10 yards) gave the Blueboys a 34-0 halftime lead. Lammy scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the third quarter, covering 1 and 3 yards, before Lake Forest spoiled the shutout with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Mike Lewis to George Vidas early in the fourth quarter. Brimmage's third touchdown of the day, a 5-yard sprint, brought the game to its final score.
Lammy ran for 46 yards on 10 carries, while
Kendall Gibson added 22 yards on three totes. Bates ran for 18 yards on six carries. Fuller recorded six receptions for 68 yards and
Wes Graham had five catches for 76 yards.
Andy Mills and
J.J. Wang made five tackles apiece for the IC defense.
Adam Hickson,
Robert Brown and
Meeko Reddick each had a quarterback sack, and
Zack Hanlon intercepted a pass for the fourth time in five games this year. Hickson and
Samir Adrissi each forced a fumble.
The Blueboys improved to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in Midwest Conference play with the win. They travel to Beloit College next Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
