Josue Hernandez and
Alex Gardner found the net within two minutes of each other and the Illinois College men's soccer team took a 2-1 win over visiting Coe College in its season opener Sunday afternoon.
Hernandez scored IC's first goal in the 58th minute off a
Fiifi Nkum assist. Gardner followed up less than two minutes later when his deflected shot went in. Coe's Chris Fitch scored in the 71st minute, but IC goalkeeper
Trevor Donahue and the Blueboy defense held to the one-goal advantage. Donahue made seven saves.
Illinois College improved to 2-0. The Blueboys travel to Fontbonne University Tuesday night.
