Illinois College's
Kurt Frischman has signed a contract to play professional football for the Kirchdorf Wildcats of German Football League 2.
Frischman, a senior defensive end from Arnold, Missouri, finished his career at Illinois College this fall with 159 career tackles, including 46 ½ behind the line of scrimmage. Frischman leaves the Illinois College football team with school records for tackles for loss in a game (5 ½ vs. Lawrence University in 2013), tackles for loss in a season (21 in 2013) and forced fumbles in a season (three in 2012).
He recorded 58 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 5 ½ sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, six quarterback hurries and one touchdown in 2013 on his way to being named Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He also earned All-America honors from Beyond College Sports Network.
The next snaps Frischman will take will be for the Kirchdorf Wildcats, located in the city of Kirchdorf am Inn, in the German state of Bavaria.
"To be able to pursue something I am so passionate for and make a lifestyle out of playing football is a dream come true," Frischman said. "I get to go explore the world and do something that not many people can say they've experienced."
The Kirchdorf Wildcats were founded in 1986. The team is currently one of eight teams playing in the GFL2's southern division. The team won league championships in 1994 and 2003, but lost playoff games each year as it sought promotion to the first-division German Football League.
Frischman is confident his experience at Illinois College has prepared him to play at the professional level.
"I would not have chosen any other school to play football for besides Illinois College," he said. "The coaching staff has been incredible and I have learned so much throughout the years."
