Dr. Amy Wilson has been appointed Illinois College's Faculty Athletic Representative, Director of Athletics Gale Vaughn announced Monday. A former student-athlete, and faculty member at Illinois College since 2008, Wilson replaces Dr. J. Scott Steckenrider as Illinois College's Faculty Athletic Representative.

"Amy's exceptional academic connection with students and her passionate support of athletics will resonate at a very high level with our student-athletes, coaching staff, faculty and alumni. I look forward to working with Amy on several local, conference and national issues facing athletics today."
Wilson will assume the role of Faculty Athletic Representative when the fall semester begins on Monday, August 26, 2013.
"After a rewarding and meaningful experience as a student-athlete at Illinois College, I am excited to be the new FAR, and to be intricately involved in Illinois College athletics again," Wilson said. "I look forward to working with Gale Vaughn and all of the coaches to foster the success of our student-athletes, both academically and athletically."
A native of Mt. Sterling, Wilson was a standout student-athlete at Brown County High School, where she was an all-conference selection in both basketball and softball. Wilson was a two-time all-conference selection in both sports at Illinois College, and she was part of a Lady Blues basketball team that did not lose a home game over a three-year stretch. She played a key role in the Illinois College women's basketball team winning its first and only Midwest Conference championship in 1993. Wilson was inducted into the Illinois College Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
Wilson holds a bachelor's degree in in English from Illinois College, a master's degree in English from the University of Illinois Springfield, and a doctorate in health and sport studies, with an emphasis in athletics administration, from the University of Iowa. Wilson was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate and NCAA Scholar Athlete of the Year at Illinois College. She won the Helen Conlee Curtis Award, Stutevant Leadership and Service Award, Mary Seybold Prize in English, Margaret Barlow Scholar Athlete Award and Al Miller Athletic-Academic Award.
Wilson has published a national report on Title IX for the NCAA, which was distributed to athletic directors and senior women's administrators at all member institutions, and she spoke to the NCAA Division III Management Council on gender equity and diversity issues in Division III athletics this summer. Wilson also serves as chair of the Faculty Athletics Committee, a group of faculty members working with coaches toward the goal of providing support to student-athletes that will increase success both in the classroom and on the playing field.
