Had great success playing football. His accomplishments include: all-conference, team co-captain, Most Valuable Player and the William J. Downer male athlete of the year award. Winkelmann also competed in baseball. He coached at Jacksonville High School for nine years before moving on to North Texas University where he helped coach while pursuing his master’s degree in sports psychology.
